2021 Skoda Octavia Launch Could Be Delayed Due To Lockdown In Maharashtra

Czech automaker, Skoda has officially announced to launch the new Octavia in the country in the end of April, 2021. However, the launch could be further delayed due to rising COVID cases. Replying to a twitter user, Zac Hollis, Director, Sales & Marketing, Skoda India, said that “we are assessing the situation regarding COVID-19 and will update everyone here when I have news.”

Skoda has already started dispatching the new Octavia sedan to dealerships. The new model will receive significant design changes and upgraded interior along with a more powerful engine. Based on the VW Group’s MQB EVO platform, the 2021 Skoda Octavia will receive the new 190PS, 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

It is expected that the entry-level variants of the new Octavia could receive the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the turbo petrol engine produces 147bhp of power and 250Nm of torque.

First unveiled in November 2019, the 2021 Skoda Octavia received major changes in terms of styling, size and interior. The new model is 19mm longer and 15mm wider, and has a wheelbase of 2,686mm. The sedan features the familiar design with more aggressive elements. It comes with a prominent butterfly grille with chrome surround and single-piece headlamp with integrated LED DRLs.

The sedan will receive dual-tone interior with new dashboard design. It comes with a new two-spoke steering wheel with knurled scroll wheels, a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Skoda’s SmartLink, and a new 10.25-inch Virtual cockpit digital instrument console. The sedan also gets connected car tech with eSIM functionality. It will ride on 17-inch alloy wheels. For safety and security, the sedan has 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC and traction control.
