Mahindra & Mahindra has been testing the new-generation XUV500 for quite sometime and we have seen it multiple times (camouflaged) in spy pictures. Though, the latest set of spy images reveals interesting interior details of the SUV. Slated to launch early next year, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 features a newly-designed dashboard and a new, wider center console.
You can also notice the low-mounted center AC vents, a multi function flat-bottomed steering wheel and a full digital instrument console with a large MID. The new-generation XUV500 has heavily contoured front bucket seat wrapped in black quilted leather upholstery. With decent side bolstering, the seats appear to be more comfortable than the existing ones.
Most of the features will be carried over from the current generation including steering mounted controls, remote tailgate opening, mobile charging point, power windows, flat folding second and third row seats, cruise control, reverse camera with dynamic assist, puddle lamps, power driver’s seat and more. The biggest change will come in the form of a new 2.0L turbocharged diesel engine delivering power worth around 180bhp. The new Mahindra XUV500 will also be offered with the brand’s newly-developed 2.0L mStallion petrol engine with turbochargers and direct injection system. The gasoline motor will be good enough for 190bhp and 380Nm. Transmission duties will be done by 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic units.
The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will underpin an all-new platform that’s reported to be more agile and ready for the future safety standards. Design of the new model will be inspired by the Mahindra Funster concept that was previewed at this year’s Auto Expo. It will have a more squish design with upright nose, flatter hood and door panels.
Some of its key changes will include full LED headlamps with DRLs, flush-fitting door handles and full LED taillamps. In terms of dimensions, the new XUV500 is likely to be slightly bigger than the existing model.
