2021 Mahindra XUV500 Gets A Big Sunroof; Mild-Hybrid Tech Come Later

The next-generation Mahindra XUV500 is one of the much-anticipated new car launches of this year. While its official launch date is yet to be confirmed, the model is reported to hit roads in April 2021. The SUV’s new-generation model has been caught on camera multiple times during its test rounds in the country. The latest set of spy pictures, however, confirms that the final production-ready version of the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will have a panoramic sunroof.

The SUV’s new model will also be boasted with several advanced features including ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System), an eyelid tracking mechanism, a 3D panoramic vision for driver, a radar system and autonomous braking system. The carmaker will source ADAS from a South Korea based firm – Mando.

The new XUV500 might also be packed with multiple advanced driver assistance features such as Front Collision Warning (FCW), Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). Read – New Mahindra Bolero Coming This Year

One of the biggest changes will be made under the hood. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with the new 2.0L mStallion T-GDi turbo petrol and 2.0L mHawk diesel engine options. While the gasoline unit will deliver power close to 190bhp with 380Nm, the oil burner will promise 180bhp with 380Nm. The XVU500’s 2.0L petrol motor will be Mahindra’s most powerful engine till date.

A fresh media report claims that the carmaker might also introduce a mild hybrid technology on the new XUV500 model lineup, but at a later stage. Mahindra is working on multiple solutions to meet the upcoming CAFA (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) and RDE (Real Driving Emission) norms that will be enforced from 2022. The new mild hybrid technology will help the carmaker make its vehicles to comply the new-generation emission standards. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.
