Launched on 2nd October, the second-generation Mahindra Thar has been doing really well for the carmaker. Within 4 days of its arrival, the off-road SUV gathered over 9,000 bookings. Now, the carmaker has announced that the 2020 Mahindra Thar has received over 15,000 bookings so far. Of the total bookings, 57% came from the first time buyers. The company also revealed that the automatic variants are higher in demand than the manual models.
Attributes such as robust body-built, well-equipped interior and improved off-road capabilities have been working in its favour. If reports are to be believed, the off-road SUV’s waiting period has already stretched into 2021.
The new-generation Thar comes in three trims (LX, AX and AX (O)), three roof top options (Hard, Soft, Convertible) and two powertrains. Its petrol model comes with a new 2.0L mStallion motor that’s good for 150bhp and 320Nm and the diesel variant is powered by a 2.2L mHawk unit pushing out 10bhp with 320Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are on offer.
The new Thar gets 4WD drivetrain system and a manual shift transfer case with a low ratio as standard feature. Some of its key features include roof-mounted speakers, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a colour multi-info display for the instrument cluster, cruise control and steering mounted control.
The SUV’s safety kit includes dual airbags, hill-start and descent assist, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program with roll-over mitigation and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
Price range of the 2020 Mahindra Thar starts from Rs 9.80 lakh for the entry-level AX petrol manual variant and go up to Rs 13.75 lakh for the fully-packed LX diesel automatic model. All prices are ex-showroom. The new Thar takes on the Force Gurkha that’s set to witness a generation change during this festive season.
