Hyundai India has finally launched the 3rd generation i20 hatchback in the country. The new model comes with all-new design and interior along with new set of engine and gearbox combinations. The 2020 Hyundai i20 is available in the price bracket of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 11.18 lakh, which makes it significantly expensive than the previous model. In fact, it is significantly pricier than most of its direct rivals including the Tata Altroz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
Going by the pricing, it is visible that the new i20 sits above its rivals. In fact, buyer can drive home a sub-4 meter SUV in the same price bracket. Hyundai’s sub-4 meter SUV – the Venue is also available with the same engine-gearbox options and is priced between 6.75 lakh and Rs 11.65 lakh. Adding to it, the brand is giving a discount of Rs 20,000 on the Venue. It is clear that the Hyundai Venue makes more sense than the i20, when it comes to pricing. 2020 Hyundai i20 Vs Venue Prices
The Hyundai Venue and the new i20 are equipped with same set of engines – a 83bhp, 1.2-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol, a 118bhp, 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 99bhp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel. The changes are made to the gearbox options. While the i20 with 1.2L engine comes with manual and CVT options, the Venue’s 1.2L version is only available in manual version.

The Hyundai i20 with 1.2L NA engine is available in the price bracket of Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 9.70 lakh, the Venue with same engine is priced between 6.75 lakh and Rs 8.38 lakh. In fact, the top-spec i20’s 1.2L manual version is priced at Rs 9.20 lakh; making it a significantly pricier than the Venue.

The new-gen Hyundai i20’s 1.0-litre turbocharged version is offered with 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT version. On the other hand, the Venue’s 1.0L turbo version is available with 3 gearbox options – a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed iMT. Let’s compare the prices of the Turbo iMT and Turbo DCT versions of the new i20 and the Venue. The new i20 Turbo iMT is available in 2 variants – Sportz and Asta – priced at Rs 8.80 lakh and 9.90 lakh respectively. On the other hand, the Venue Turbo iMT is available in 3 variants – SX, SX Dual Tone (Sport) and SX (O) – priced at Rs 10 lakh, 10.27 lakh and 11.15 lakh respectively. Going by the pricing, it is clear that buyer can opt for the Venue iMT with some additional amount. The new i20 Turbo is available in two variants – Asta and Asta (O) – priced at Rs 10.67 lakh and Rs 11.18 lakh respectively. On the other hand, the Venue Turbo is offered in 4 variants – S, SX, SX (O) Dual Tone (Sport) and SX+ Dual Tone (Sport) – priced at 9.67 lakh, 9.86 lakh, 11.27 lakh and Rs 11.65 lakh respectively. Similar to the above variants, the Venue DCT makes more sense than the i20 DCT.
2020 Hyundai i20 Vs Venue Features
– The top-spec version of the new i20 and the Venue comes with six airbags, Electronic stability control, Hill Assist Control, rear camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, projection fog lamps, central locking, automatic headlamps and others as safety features. However, the Venue top-end model also gets Vehicle Stability Management.
– While the Venue top-spec model gets leather + fabric upholstery for seats, the new i20 gets leather seat upholstery with copper stitching and piping.
– Both models get front seat adjustable headrest and height adjustable driver seat, along with rear armrest.
