Electric vehicle (EV) sales are on the rise, thanks to latest price cuts, government policies, and a increasing product choices across different price ranges. Tata Motors currently leads the EV market with models like the Nexon.ev, Punch.ev, Tigor.ev, and Tiago.ev, with more models on the way such as the Curvv.ev, Harrier.ev, and Safari.ev. In early 2025, India’s two largest automakers—Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai—will enter the highly competitive electric mid-size SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki will release the production-ready version of the eVX concept, while Hyundai will launch the Creta EV. Let’s take a look at the key details of these upcoming electric SUVs.
Maruti Suzuki eVX
The final version of the Maruti eVX is expected to retain most of the design elements and features from its concept model. With nearly 4.3 meters in length, the EV will feature a closed-off grille, a flat bonnet, and a front end with larger headlamps. The rear door handles will be integrated into the C-pillar. The side profile will be enhanced by prominent, squarish wheel arches, bold shoulder creases, and a coupe SUV-like roofline. The rear will sport connected LED taillights.
Inside, the electric SUV will feature a dual-screen setup serving as both the infotainment system and the instrument cluster. There will be a floating center console with a rotary dial, a two-spoke steering wheel, a 360-degree camera, a frameless rearview mirror, and an ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite. The Maruti eVX will be based on Toyota’s 40P electric skateboard architecture and could come with a 60kWh battery pack and an electric motor. Its electric range is expected to be around 500 km.
Hyundai Creta EV
Production of the Hyundai Creta EV is scheduled to begin in December 2024, followed by its market launch shortly thereafter. Except for a few EV-specific design elements, it will resemble the updated ICE-powered Creta. Inside, it will feature an Ioniq 5-inspired steering wheel with a drive selector placed behind it.
The Creta EV will offer a touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather interior, rear AC vents, a cooled glovebox, and Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology. Speculations suggest that the Hyundai Creta EV could come with a 45kWh battery pack and an electric motor placed at the front axle. Its range is expected to be around 450 km on a single charge.
