Mahindra & Mahindra recently revived its XUV 300 subcompact SUV and introduced it with a new nameplate – XUV 3XO. The model receives significant changes in terms of design and features along with a new automatic gearbox. In the crowded sub-4-meter SUV segment, the new Mahindra XUV 3XO will continue to take on the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Here, we’re analyzing prices, features, and engine specs of the fresh-out-of-factory XUV 3XO against the Tata Nexon facelift on paper.

Mahindra’s new XUV 3XO comes with a new variant nomenclature: MX1, MX2, MX2 Pro, MX3, MX3 Pro, AX5, AX5 L, AX7, and AX7 L. All these variants are available with six engine and gearbox combinations. Prices of the subcompact SUV start from Rs 7.49 lakh and go up to Rs 15.49 lakh.

Tata Nexon, on the other hand, offers a wide range of variants (total 97) to choose from. At present, its prices fall within the range of Rs 8.15 lakh – Rs 15.80 lakh. In terms of pricing, the XUV 3XO is surely an attractive deal compared to the Nexon (especially for budget-conscious buyers).

You get plenty of features right from the base variant of the XUV 3XO. The MX1 with 111bhp, 1.2L petrol engine, and manual gearbox offer 6 airbags, electronic stability control, reverse parking sensors, Isofix, front height-adjustable seat belt, 3-point seat belt for all passengers, seat belt reminder for all passengers, and electronic trumpet horn as part of its safety kit. The adjustable headrest for the middle row, 12V socket, front USB Type-A and rear USB Type-C, rear AC vents, touch-down function for the driver’s side power window, front armrest with storage, electrically adjustable ORVM, and engine start/stop features are also on board.

 While the lower and mid-spec variants get R16 steel wheels, the top-end AX7 and AX7 L are exclusively available with the R17 diamond-cut alloy wheels. You get a 10.25-inch infotainment system from the MX2 trim; however, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered from the AX5 trim onwards. Features such as a skyroof, Harman Kardon premium audio system, leatherette seats, auto-dimming IRVM, soft-touch leatherette on dashboard and door trims, 65W USB Type-C fast-charging port, front parking assist system are also reserved for the higher trims. One must note that the segment-first Level 2 ADAS suite along with a 360-degree surround view system with a blind view monitor and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold are part of the Luxury package.

Tata Nexon’s standard feature kit includes tilt and telescopic steering, central locking, reverse parking sensors, manual AC, front power windows, two-spoke steering wheel, multi-drive modes, hill hold control, electronic stability control, 6 airbags, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and LED taillamps.

A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is available from Smart+ trim, while the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen unit with wireless smartphone connectivity is offered from the Creative+ variant onwards. The higher trims of the Nexon come exclusively with the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with navigation, an air purifier with dust sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a wireless charger, a sunroof, ventilated front seats, leatherette seats, JBL speakers and audio system, and front fog lamps with cornering lights.

The engine setup of the new XUV 3XO includes the same 111bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol, 131bhp, 1.2L turbo petrol, and 117bhp, 1.5L diesel units. There are three gearbox options – a 6-speed manual (standard), a 6-speed torque converter (with non-TGDi and TGDi petrol engines), and a 6-speed AMT (with a diesel engine only).

The Tata Nexon facelift can be had with a 1.2L turbo petrol or 1.5L diesel engine. While the gasoline unit makes a top power of 120bhp with 170Nm, the oil burner delivers 115bhp with 260Nm. A 5-speed manual gearbox is available with the Smart trims, while the Pure, Creative, and Fearless trims are offered with a 6-speed manual transmission. For the automatic option, you can go for the Creative trims that come with both 6-speed AMT and 7-speed DCA transmissions. The DCA is also available on the Fearless trim. Its diesel engine is available with both manual and AMT gearboxes.

In terms of mileage, the Mahindra XUV 3XO petrol has an upper hand. Its 111bhp, 1.2L petrol manual and automatic variants are claimed to deliver a mileage of 18.89kmpl and 17.96kmpl, respectively. The 130bhp, 1.2L manual and automatic trims offer 20.1kmpl and 18.2kmpl, respectively.

The Tata Nexon petrol with a manual gearbox promises a fuel efficiency of 17.44kmpl, while the petrol AMT and DCT variants offer 17.18kmpl and 17.01kmpl, respectively. The XUV 3XO diesel returns a claimed mileage of 20.6kmpl (MT) and 21.2kmpl (AT). The Nexon diesel, on the other hand, delivers 23.23kmpl with a manual and 24.08kmpl with automatic transmissions.
