Renault-Nissan Considering Hyundai Creta EV Rival SUVs

In February 2024, Renault and Nissan announced plans to launch six new locally produced models along with a new investment of Rs 5,300 crore in India. The alliance board also revealed that the upcoming models will have sister products under each brand with some overlap within the segment. However, these vehicles will differ in terms of design.

The plan outlines the new-generation Renault Duster with both 5 and 7-seats configurations and an A-segment EV, based on the CMF-B and its electric version platform, respectively. This suggests that the alliance has planned four new ICE SUVs and two EVs.

However, according to a fresh media report, the A-segment electric car plan is likely to be scrapped. Both manufacturers are now considering to foray in the electric C-segment, which will soon witness launches from Hyundai and Maurti Suzuki. While Hyundai will bring in the Creta EV by early 2025, Maruti Suzuki will roll out the production-ready version of the eVX concept.

The new Renault and Nissan electric SUVs will measure above 4 metres in length and underpin the CMF-B EV platform. In order to fasten up the project, the alliance is in talks with the local battery and cell manufacturers to achieve competitive pricing in the EV market. The carmakers aim to price these EVs in between Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh. They will use the Renault Nissan Technology Business Centre India R&D center for this project.

The report further states that the upcoming Renault and Nissan electric SUVs might feature an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery and deliver a range of around 300km on a single charge. The new C-segment EV will be a global product and expected to arrive in 2026 or 2027.

More details on the upcoming C-segment EVs from Renault and Nissan are likely to be revealed in near future. Keep an eye on IndiaCarNews for further updates.
