Renault Duster is credited for the birth of the compact SUV segment in India long way back in 2012. It was Renault’s bread-and-butter product for so many years and propelled several automakers to introduce their own sub 4-meter SUVs in the Indian market such as Hyundai Creta, Tata Harrier and Kia Seltos. However, almost a decade later in 2022, it was phased out from the country due to the dipping sales numbers and arrival of new and advanced products in this segment.
We have learnt that the Duster is planning to make a comeback in 2025 in India. The third-gen model unveiled in global markets will feature a fresh platform, new design and several powertrain-transmission combinations. Let’s talk about the key details of the 2025 new Renault Duster in brief.
2025 Renault Duster Platform
While the discontinued model of the Renault Duster was based on the M0 platform, the all-new SUV, arriving next year, will be underpinning the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s modular CMF-B architecture. The reason for the change in platform is that the CMF-B is highly advanced and the company will localize it in India. Read: 9 New Renault Cars Planned For India
2025 Renault Duster Design
The latest iteration of the SUV looks rugged due to the inclusion of 18-inch alloy wheels, plastic cladding on wheel arches, and Y-shaped DRLs with headlamps. Though it flaunts the Dacia badging, the India-bound version would boast of Renault branding and there could be a handful of cosmetic updates to suit the taste of Indian buyers. The rear door handles are integrated in the C-Pillar while the rear profile is dominated by the Y-shaped LED tail lamp cluster.
2025 Renault Duster Features
The ruggedness seen at the outside is maintained inside the cabin as well with elements like Y-shaped AC vents and sturdy looking dashboard design. It will have physical controls for the AC. Some of the notable features in the new SUV will be 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, cruise control, Arkamys 3D sound system with 6-speakers, two USB-C ports, a 12V outlet and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Surprisingly, the sunroof is missing from the global-spec Duster. The SUV has been equipped with an ADAS suite with features like auto emergency braking and lane keep assist. The India-bound model is expected to retain the ADAS tech.
2025 Renault Duster Engine Specs
The India-bound new Renault Duster could come in a petrol-hybrid setup with 1.6L engine and electric motor. While the petrol engine will churn out 93 bhp, the electric motor will develop top power of 49 bhp, and hence taking the combined power output to 142 bhp. Termed as the Hybrid 140, it will comprise of a 1.2 kWh battery, regenerative braking, high-voltage starter generator and an automatic transmission to enable driving on pure electric mode for upto 80 percent of the time in the city.
The company could also introduce a 1.2L 3-cylinder TCe 130 petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system which will deliver top power of 128 bhp. It will be linked to a 6-speed manual unit as standard with a front-wheel-drive system. There is no word on diesel engines or the introduction of an all-wheel-drive system.
