The pseudo crossover segment is growing at a decent pace and is getting good attention from buyers these days. The car makers are now aiming to utilize the growing popularity of crossover hatchbacks by introducing new models in the country. Volkswagen first launched the Polo based crossover hatchback- Cross Polo, which later joined by Toyota Etios Cross based on Liva hatch. Fiat also introduces the Punto based Avventura crossover. Now, the South Korean auto giant is contemplating a crossover hatch based on the immensely popular Hyundai Elite i20.
A heavily disguised test mule of the crossover version of the Elite i20 has been spotted on Chennai-Bengaluru highway. Despite being heavily covered, several information of the crossover is visible in the spy images. The vehicle is equipped with roof rails, newly formulated alloy wheels and it has a slightly raised ground clearance. Just like the other crossover hatchbacks, it is expected to get plastic claddings all around the body.
Under the hood is expected to be the same 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and the 1.4L CRDi diesel units. While the petrol motor is capable of producing 83PS and 117Nm of torque, the oil burner develops 90PS and 224Nm of torque. It is expected that Hyundai will launch the new Elite i20 crossover by early or mid-2015. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 7-10 lakh.
