Mahindra XUV500 Will Be Out of Production After XUV700 Arrival – Report

Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to launch multiple new products in coming months. Recently, the carmaker trademarked XUV900, XUV400 and XUV100 nameplates for its upcoming models. The Mahindra XUV900 is likely to be a premium 7-seater SUV (possibly a replacement to the Alturas), while the XUV400 could be a Creta and Seltos rival.

The Mahindra XUV100 might be a mini SUV to challenge Tata’s upcoming HBX concept based small SUV. The company announced that the production model of the W601 will be named – Mahindra XUV700. It will be the spiritual successor and replacement of the XUV500.

According to a fresh media report, the Mahindra XUV500 will go out of production after the launch of the XUV700 SUV. However, the carmaker has no plan to phase out the XUV500 brand. If reports are to be believed, the Mahindra XUV500 nameplate will be used for a new SUV that will be put up against the Tata Harrier and MG Hector. It will be a 5-seater SUV based on the modular monocoque platform.

The new Mahindra XUV500 SUV will be smaller than the XUV700 and is likely to feature de-tuned version of the 2.2L diesel and 2.0L petrol engines. Unlike the XUV700 that will come with the optional AWD (all-wheel-drive), the new XUV500 5-seater might get the FWD (front-wheel-drive) system.

Most of its design bits and features will be carried from the XUV700. The Mahindra XUV500 5-seater might be packed with a digital instrument console, a free-standing infotainment system, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof and more. It’s likely to miss out the ADAS (advance driver assistance system) and features like blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control and autonomous emergency braking.

While there is no official word on its launch timeline, the new Mahindra XUV500 5-seater SUV is expected to arrive sometime in 2022. Prices of the model are likely to start from Rs 12 lakh and go up to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
