Volkswagen Taigun Features, Design Details Officially Revealed

The German carmaker has revealed new images, design details and features of its upcoming mid-size SUV – the Volkswagen Taigun. The carmaker says it’s a “bold, dynamic and German engineered SUVW designed and developed for the discerning Indian customers”.

Based on the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform, the Taigun will face challenge from the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and the upcoming Skoda Kushaq. The mid-size SUV made its debut in its concept avatar at the last year’s Auto Expo, and its production model is likely to arrive during 2021 festive season.

The new Volkswagen SUV’s final model retains most of its design elements from the concept. Upfront, the Taigun carries LED matrix headlamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lights) and a signature grille with the brand’s new logo. Mr. Klaus Zyciora, Head of Volkswagen Group Design said that it has most distinctive rear design within the segment. The width spanning C-shaped continues LED tailllamp enhances its sporty rear design.

The upcoming Volkswagen Taigun is claimed to offer “elevated seating position” and flattened turner at the rear bench. The latter one ensures comfort to the middle row passengers. It has contemporary dashboard layout with décor inserts along with ambient lighting, smart storage spaces and ventilated front seats. A 2651mm long wheelbase will ensure ample cabin space. For the safety provision, the Taigun offers 6 airbags, Isofix child mounts, electronic stability control (ESC)k adjustable headrest for all passengers, 3 headrests at the rear and three-point seat belts. The higher trims will be exclusively offered with rear park distance control, hill hold control and tyre pressure deflation warning system.

Under the hood, the new Volkswagen Taigun will feature a 114bhp, 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. While the former will come with the 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options, the latter will be available with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The same powertrains will be offered on the upcoming Skoda Kushaq SUV.
