The upcoming MG Hector Plus 6/7-seater SUV has finally entered production at the carmaker’s Halol based plant in Gujarat. Scheduled to launch in July 2020, the SUV will take head-to-head against the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming Tata Gravitas. Prices of the Hector Plus are likely to be around Rs 1 lakh higher than its 5-seater sibling that costs between Rs 12.74 lakh – Rs 17.73 lakh (ex-showroom).
Previewed at the 2020 Auto Expo, the Hector Plus has captain seats in the middle row along with an additional third row seats. Minor cosmetic updates have been made to the model that differentiate it from Hector 5-seater. It features an all-new headlamps, new front grille, revised bumpers, new skid plates and newly-designed rear taillight.
MG’s upcoming 6/7-seater SUV will be exclusively offered in a new Starry Sky Blue paint scheme. Its likely come in 5 more shades (similar to the 5-seater Hector), namely, Starry Black, Glaze Red, Burgundy Red Metallic, Candy White and Aurora Silver. The Hector Plus measures 40mm longer than its younger sibling that translates into more cabin space.
The SUV might come with a 10.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a panoramic sunroof, an Infinity sound system, connected car technology, automatic climate control, ambient lighting and cruise control.
The MG Hector Plus will share its powertrains with the Hector 5-seater. That said, there will be a FCA-sourced 2.0L, diesel delivering 170bhp and 350Nm of torque and a 1.5L turbo-petrol motor generating 143bhp and 250Nm of torque. The turbo-petrol model will come with an option of a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The new 6/7-seater SUV will also be available with a 48V mild-hybrid petrol powertrain with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The mild hybrid technology will help deliver up to 20Nm of additional torque at low speeds.
