2020 Hyundai i20 To Come With An Optional DCT Gearbox
The Hyundai i20, the premium hatchback from the South Korean carmaker, is ready to enter into its third generation sometime next year. Similar to the global model, the India-spec 2020 Hyundai i20 will get an optional DCT (dual-clutch transmission) along with the standard manual gearbox. Besides the new transmission, the hatchback will receive new, more powerful petrol and diesel engines that will meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms.
The petrol version of the 2020 Hyundai i20 will come with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, sourced from the Venue subcompact SUV. The gasoline motor, with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox, delivers a top power of 118bhp with 172Nm of torque. Globally, this petrol unit is tuned to produce 100bhp with 172Nm.
The diesel model, on the other hand, will derive power from a 1.5L motor churning out power worth 115bhp and 250Nm of torque. It will replace the existing 1.4L diesel powertrain. The same oil burner does duty in the newly-launched Kia Seltos compact SUV. Hyundai, however, could detune it and use a fixed geometry turbocharged technology instead of Seltos’ variable geometry turbocharged system.
We have seen prototype of the 2020 Hyundai i20 multiple times, giving us a fair idea about the exterior and interior changes. Besides improved styling and a pack of new features, the hatchback will witness minor dimensional changes. That means, it will offer more cabin space for the rear seat occupants.
