All-New Hyundai i20 to receive new powerful petrol and diesel engines

New Hyundai i20 Walkaround

Hyundai is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the highly competitive Indian auto market. The company has launched the Venue, Kona electric and the all-new Grand i10 Nios in the country this year. Adding to it, the company is also readying the facelift versions of the Elantra, Tucson and the Verna scheduled to be launched in our market in the next few months. With BS6 emission norms coming, Hyundai is also planning to completely revamp its entire product line-up. The company will launch the next-gen Creta and the Elite i20 hatchback in India in 2020.

The 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 will receive all-new design and new engine options. It is expected to make its public debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The new model will receive the new BSVI compliant 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Venue. This engine is capable of producing 118bhp of power and 172Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. This engine is also available in the lower state of tune in the global markets, offering 100bhp and 172Nm.

Apart from the petrol engine, the new Hyundai Elite i20 will receive the 1.5-litre diesel engine that also powers the Seltos. Set to replace the 1.4-litre engine, the new powertrain produces 115bhp and 250Nm of torque. It is expected that the Hyundai Elite i20 could receive the lower state of tune. While the Seltos engine comes with a variable geometry turbocharged, the i20’s unit is likely to receive a fixed geometry turbocharged to keep costs in check. Similar to the Seltos, the diesel Elite i20 is also expected to be offered with manual and automatic gearbox option.

The 2020 Hyundai Elite i20 has already been spotted testing on the Indian roads. The new model will retain the existing profile, but will have Hyundai’s new design language. It will receive the signature Hyundai cascading grille, LED headlamps, sportier rear with redesigned LED tail-lamps and all-new bumpers. The new model is expected to be wider than the outgoing model to offer more space for the rear occupants. Adding to it, the hatchback will receive host of comfort and convenience features including Hyundai BlueLink connectivity solution from the Venue.
