New 2014 Volkswagen Polo Facelift spied- India launch, price & engine

New Volkswagen Polo facelift

Volkswagen that unveiled the 2014 Polo facelift at the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show is all set to launch the vehicle in the Indian car market. The facelifted Polo has been spotted during its test rounds near Volkswagen’s manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra. The spied model caught testing was VW Polo GT TDI with an all-new engine.

Volkswagen India launched the GT TDI version of Polo last year which is packed with a powerful 1.6-litre 4-cylinder TDI engine. The current Polo is also available with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine. Both the engines will be replaced by a new 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine. This engine churns out a max power output of 80bhp, while powering the Vento it will be tuned to offer 104bhp. The 1.5-litre engine is reportedly offers a better drivability and fuel economy, and it will also attract lower excise duty as it is defined as a small engine.

The 2014 Volkswagen looks quite identical to its predecessor, however it gets some subtle changes to make it look refreshing. Its front fascia gets new smart headlamps with integrated LED elements and a new, more prominent looking, front bumper. The bumper features a chrome strip and new foglight assembly. At the back, the updated Polo sports a larger licensing plate asylum, while the rear bumper gets reflectors.

Inside the cabin, the updated Polo gets some interesting upgrades. The vehicle gets new centre console and the electro-mechanical steering wheel. It is also equipped with a new colour display. The all black cabin sports silver accents which offer a rich feel.

The European spec model gets an automatic post collision braking system which automatically applies the brakes after a collision. It sports an optional Sport Select suspension system which features electronically controlled dampers to toggle between two suspension setups. However, it is quite early to comment whether these features will also come with Indian model or not.

The exact launch date and pricing of the 2014 Volkswagen Polo facelift is yet to be announced, but we expect it to make its Indian debut by the mid-2014. As the GT TDI version will be offered with 1.5-litre diesel engine, it is likely to cost around 50,000 cheaper than the current model.
