Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi had announced to launch the automatic variant of the Pajero Sport in the Indian car market. This SUV has been showcased at the ongoing Bangkok Motor Show, giving us the important details about the car. Launched in early 2012, the Pajero Sport is locally assembled at the HM’s Tiruvallur manufacturing unit in Chennai.
The current model is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 178bhp and 400Nm of top torque. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The vehicle unveiled features a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The same 5-speed INVECS-II automatic transmission gearbox will come with Sportronic function. This transmission will distribute the generated power to all 4 wheels of the SUV. Mitsubishi sold similar model in Thailand with quite similar features to that of its Indian sibling.
Mitsubishi has confirmed that the new automatic variant of the SUV, Pajero Sport in the Indian car market in October this year. It has been around 2 year since its launch in the country; however it has not got any update. We also expect that this model will not get new feature or exteriors update. With this automatic variant, the company aims to regain its lost market share in the Indian car market.
Mitsubishi in India sold its products in partnership with homegrown Hindustan Motors. This Automatic Pajero Sport will be locally assembled at Hindustan Motors’ Chennai production plant. It is expected to cost around Rs. 1 lakh more than the manual variant, which make it around Rs. 25 lakh.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will directly compete against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva, Hyundai Santa Fe and Ford Endeavour. Well, Pajero Sport lacks several advanced features such as SAT-NAV, automatic climate control, rear parking camera and others, while its competitors comes equipped with similar features.
