Hyundai Xcent compact sedan launched

India’s second largest carmaker Hyundai has finally launched the much-anticipated Xcent aka Grand i10 compact sedan in the Indian car market. It has been priced at Rs. 4.66 lakh for entry level model and Rs. 7.38 lakh for top spec model (ex-showroom, Delhi). With Xcent, the South Korean automaker has marked its entry into the growing compact segment in the Indian car market. The vehicle is now available in three trims- Base, S and SX, while the automatic transmission comes optional in S and SX. It will directly compete against the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire and Honda Amaze, which currently dominating the segment.

The Hyundai Xcent is being offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the gasoline model gets the 1.2-litre engine which is capable of developing a top power output of 82bhp and 114Nm of torque, the oil burner has 1.1-litre engine that churns out a maximum power output of 70bhp and 160Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, while the petrol model also gets an option of 4-speed auto gearbox. The diesel version of the compact sedan is claimed to offer an excellent fuel economy of 24kmpl, while the petrol version claimed to offer 19.1kmpl of mileage. With auto gearbox, the petrol version returns a fuel economy of 16.9kmpl.

Hyundai Xcent shares its exterior styling with its sibling hatch Grand i10. Based on Hyundai’s signature mature ‘Fluidic design’ sculpture, the compact sedan looks sporty. The front facade features a large grille, swept back smoked headlamps and wrap-around tail lamps with chrome insert and chrome finished hexagonal air dam. The rear section is what distinguishes it from the Grand i10 hatchback. It has sporty dual tone bumper with stylish reflector and aerodynamic kick-up trunk lid design with chrome garnish. Body coloured door handles and outside rear view mirrors, and 15-inch diamond cut alloy wheels accentuates the side profile.

On the inside, a bright dual tone beige and black interiors offers a premium feel. The material quality, and fit & finish are top notch. The smartly designed dashboard comes with a hexagonal outlined audio. It has various utility spaces in door trims and centre console.
