The German luxury carmaker, Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch the much awaited CLA sedan in the Indian market on January 22nd. The company has already launched the CLA 45 AMG, while the regular petrol and diesel variants are likely to go on sale in January 2015. Bookings for the sedan are expected to commence soon.
Based on the MFA platform that also underpins the A-Class hatchback, the Mercedes CLA gets aggressive front fascia. It gets a long bonnet with aggressive lines and single slat chrome grille with three-pointed star in the centre. As an optional, the vehicle gets Bi-xenon headlights with daytime running lamps. The rear shares styling with larger CLS, while the sloping roofline adds to its sporty look.
When launched, the CLA will compete against the successful Audi A3 sedan. The CLA sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol motor is the 2.0-litre turbocharged, 4-cylinder unit producing 181bhp and 300Nm, the oil burner is the 2.1L unit that is good for 135bhp and 300Nm of peak torque. Power is transmitted to front wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
As the Audi A3 sedan is priced very aggressively, we expect that the Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan could offer an aggressive pricing. The vehicle is likely to be priced in the range of Rs. 25-32 lakh.
