Yamaha To Launch A 150cc Adventure Motorcycle In India

Japanese two-wheeler maker, Yamaha is preparing to launch a wide range of new motorcycles ranging from 150cc to bigger bikes including MT-07, MT-09 and YZF-R7. The company is yet to launch an ADV in the Indian market. It is reported that the Japanese automaker is now planning to launch a new 150cc adventure motorcycle in our market.

In the past couple of years, we have seen a couple of adventure motorcycles in the lower end of the spectrum. Hero MotoCorp is selling the Xpulse 200 as an affordable off-roader, while Honda is selling the CB200X as a more road-biased ADV. Royal Enfield is selling the Himalayan and the Scram 411. In fact, RE is preparing bigger 450cc and 650cc Himalayan and the Scram.

Yamaha WR155r

A new media report claims that Yamaha is considering a 125cc to 155cc adventure bike for the Indian market. Speaking to Zigwheels, Yamaha India Chairman, Eishin Chihana said that ADVs are in focus, owing to its massive popularity in the country. The company could introduce a FZ-X based pseudo-ADV or the WR 155R, which is a proper off-roader. The WR 155R is the most capable off-roader from Yamaha.

It is powered by a 155.1cc engine that produces 16bhp of power and 14Nm of torque. The motorcycle rides on 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheels shod with dual-purpose tyres. It comes with a 245mm ground clearance, which adds to its off-road capabilities. This adventure motorcycle comes with 8-litre fuel tank.

If Yamaha launches the WR 155R motorcycle, it would cost significantly higher compared to the Hero XPulse 200. We believe that Yamaha could introduce a pseudo-ADV based on the currently sold FZ-X.

Yamaha RX100 To Make A Comeback

Yamaha India chairman has also confirmed that it will bring back the RX 100 nameplate with a new motorcycle soon. It will be a performance-oriented machine and is likely to get a modern neo-retro design theme. It is expected that RX100 will come with a bigger four-stroke engine. The motorcycle could be positioned against the likes of the RE Hunter 350 and Classic 350, Jawa 42, Yezdi Roadster and Honda CB350.
