Tata Motors announced prices of the Tiago electric hatchback in September and its bookings were commenced in October, 2022. Deliveries of the model will begin in January 2023. The model lineup has been offered in four trims (XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux), priced from Rs 8.49 lakh – Rs 11.79 lakh (all, ex-showroom). These prices are introductory and bound to increase in January. The new Tata Tiago EV has garnered over 20,000 bookings so far.
Speaking to a media publication, the Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said that the Tiago EV has been witnessing “greater interest” in some new states including Madya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. The implementation of the EV policies has increased EV penetration in new states.
He further revealed, the long-range version of the electric hatchback is high in-demand. States like Delhi, Maharashtra and Kerala, which have adopted EV policies earlier, have demand for the medium range version. Over 50 percent bookings are from customers below age of 40 years and around 25 percent are from the first-time buyers.
The Tata Tiago EV comes with the two lithium-ion battery pack options – 19.2kWh and 24kWh. While the former delivers a claimed MIDC range of 250km, the latter promises 315km on a single charge. The electric hatchback has Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture that consists of a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The motor pushes out a peak power of 74bhp and 114Nm with the larger 24kWh battery and 61bhp with 110Nm with the smaller 19.2kWh battery.
Tata says that the Tiago EV’s battery pack can be charged up to 80 percent in 57 minutes by using a 50kW DC fast charger. It also comes with the standard 3.3kW home charger and optional 7.2kW AC fast charger that can juice up the 19.2kWh and 24kWh batteries in 5 hours 5 minutes, 6 hours 20 minutes and 2 hours 35 minutes, 3 hours 35 minutes respectively.
