Yamaha R15M, the new top-end variant of the YZF R15 sports bike, will go on sale on September 21, 2021. Compared to the regular model, the new one carries sportier design and offers a bunch of new premium components. The new variant has already reached dealerships and was spotted in Silver and Racing Blue colours. One of its test mules was caught on MotoGP livery with Monster Energy monikers at the front and side panels. – Some of its design elements seem borrowed from the Yamaha R1M. Its front end, however, shares resemblance to the R7.
– Unlike the standard R15 that has dual headlamp setup, the new variant features a single projector LED headlamp with LED DRLs on both sides.
– It has bigger windscreen, larger air ducts and new front fairing. The LED taillamps have also been redesigned.
– What further distinguish it from the YZF R15 are the slightly repositioned pillion footpegs, exhaust muffler with metallic finish, golden front forks. The bike has Bluetooth connectivity feature.
– For power, the upcoming Yamaha R15M variant will use the same 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine benefited with VVA technology.
– As per the Type Approval Document, the motor makes a top power of 18.35PS. In its current state, it delivers power worth 18.6PS and 14.1Nm of torque. The new variant will come equipped with a 6-speed gearbox.
– It has been equipped with USD forks suspension unit at the front replacing the standard telescopic forks. Braking system is likely to remain unchanged – i.e. 282mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes with the standard dual-channel ABS.
– Yamaha R15M prices are expected to be around Rs 5,000 – Rs 10,000 higher than the YZF R15 V3.0 that costs from Rs 1.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
