Japanese two-wheeler maker, Yamaha is getting aggressive with its product strategy for the Indian market. After introducing the FZ-X 155 and the new MotoGP editions of the MT-15 and the FZS, the company is now ready to launch a new 155cc premium scooter in the country. The globally popular Yamaha Aerox 155 aka NVX 155 is most likely to be launched in our market in the next few months.
In fact, Yamaha has homologated the Aerox 155 Maxi scooter in India. Japanese automaker has already announced that it will focus on premium segment, and will launch a wide range of products in the 150cc to 250cc range.
The new Yamaha Aerox 155 is based on the new R15 V3.0’s engine platform. It is powered by a 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with Yamaha’s Blue Core tech. This is the same engine that powers the Yamaha R15 V3. While powering the Aerox, the 155cc engine produces 15.4bhp at 8,000rpm and a peak torque of 13.9Nm at 6,500rpm.
The updated Yamaha Aerox has recently been launched in Thailand, and the same model is expected to be introduced in our market. The new 155cc scooter weighs 125kgs, and has a bigger 5.5-litre fuel tank. For braking, the scooter gets single disc in front and drum brake at the rear. The scooter rides on 14-inch wheels wrapped in 110/80 and 140/70 section tyres at the front and rear respectively.
In terms of proportions, the new Yamaha Aerox 155 is 1,980mm long, 700mm wide and 1,150mm tall. It rides on 1,350mm long wheelbase. The scooter will be equipped with Yamaha’s Y-Connect as standard, which can be connected to rider’s smartphone using associated application. Using this application, rider can monitor functions such as maintenance intervals, malfunction notifications, mileage, battery level and parking location. The smartphone with Y-Connect can also act as a secondary instrument panel, displaying tachometer and other functions while simultaneously showing calls or message notification.
In terms of features, the Yamaha Aerox 155 gets LED lighting system – twin LED headlamps with LED DRLs and new LED Tail-lights, a new LCD digital instrument console. The scooter has 25-litres of storage compartment under the seat. For suspension duties, the scooter gets telescopic front forks and twin shock absorbers at the rear.
