German car manufacturer Volkswagen is planning to launch the Vento sedan with a new 1.5-litre diesel engine in the Indian car market. The company is also planning to introduce the Polo facelift, which will also get the same 1.5-litre diesel engine. This model is expected to hit the showrooms in the second quarter of 2014.
The Volkswagen Polo facelift will get the 1.5-litre diesel engine in two states of power output, however the Vento sedan will be offered with the high spec 104bhp version. Adding to it, Volkswagen will also introduce the Vento diesel with a six-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The company earlier launched the Vento and Polo petrol with DSG gearbox.
Currently, Hyundai Verna diesel is the only mid-sized sedan to be offered with 4-speed automatic transmission. The Volkswagen Vento 1.5-litre diesel is expected to be launched by the end of this year, and is likely to cost around Rs. 1 lakh more than its manual version. The company expects that this model will boost the sales of Vento and Polo hatchback in India.
