Volkswagen Talagon Full-Sized SUV Unveiled; Based On MQB Platform

German automaker, Volkswagen is aiming to further strengthen its position in the Chinese SUV market. The company has revealed its largest SUV – the Volkswagen Talagon SUV at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show.

The Volkswagen Talagon full sized SUV has been developed in collaboration of Volkswagen and FAW in China. It is basically the production version of the SMV concept, which was unveiled two years ago. The SUV retains most of the styling; however, VW engineers have made certain changes to make it road-legal.

In terms of proportions, the VW Talagon SUV is 5,152mm long, 2,002mm wide and 1,795mm tall. It is around 112mm longer, 12mm wider and 15mm taller than the VW Atlas SUV. The SUV rides on 2,980mm of wheelbase. The SUV is based on the VW Group’s MQB EVO platform, which also underpins the new Golf, Skoda Octavia, Seat Leon, Audi A3 and others. It is also the biggest SUV based on the VW Group’s MQB platform.

In terms of styling, the Volkswagen Talagon full-sized SUV gets a muscular front with design elements inspired by the I.D6 electric SUV. It gets chrome detailing on the front grille, which is flanked by LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. The SUV gets muscular bumper with silver bar surrounding the lower air dam. The SUV gets a large multi-spoke alloy wheels, sloping roofline, sleek LED tail-lamps connected by a LED strip, and silver finished roof-rails.

The Volkswagen Talagon will be offered in six-and seven-seat layouts. It shares the interior with the Atlas or the Teramont SUVs. The SUV comes fitted with a three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, a free-floating large infotainment system, a digital instrument console, a massive sunroof, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, etc.

The Volkswagen Talagon will be powered by a 2.5-litre V6 engine that churns out a maximum power output of 291bhp and a peak torque of 500Nm. Power is transmitted to the four wheels via the 4Motion AWD system. For transmission duties, the SUV is paired to a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It could also receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
