We have reported earlier that Kia Motors India is planning to foray into the compact MPV space with a new model codenamed – Kia KY. The model, which is currently in its testing phase, is reported to hit showrooms early next year.
Here, it will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Marazzo and Hyundai’s upcoming compact MPV. It’s reported to come with 7-seats configuration with the segment-first access to third row seats via an electronic button. There will also be a 6-seater version featuring captain seats for the middle row.
The upcoming new Kia MPV will share its some of its design bits, features and platform with the Seltos. In fact, the powertrains might also be carried forward from its SUV sibling. The Kia Seltos is currently available with the 1.5L petrol, 1.4L direct-injection turbo petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.
The 1.5L petrol and diesel motors make a top power of 115bhp with 144Nm and 250Nm of torque respectively. The turbo-petrol unit is good enough for 140bhp and 242Nm of torque. The 1.5L petrol comes with two gearbox options – a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic.
The turbo-petrol can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The oil burner is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic transmission. The new Kia compact MPV could be offered with multiple driving modes.
On the feature front, the new Kia KY MPV might offer a large touchscren infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, Kia’s UVO connected car technology, ambient lighting, air purifier, an electric sunroof and separate AC controls and curtains for the middle row passengers.
Meanwhile, the South Korean carmaker is ready to introduce iMT gearbox and a panoramic sunroof to the Kia Seltos SUV model lineup. Both these features will be offered on the two new variants – iMT HTK+ and Turbo GTX (O).
