Volkswagen Taigun Testing Begins; Coming Soon To Rival Creta, Seltos

Volkswagen Taigun, the new mid-size SUV from the German carmaker, has been scheduled to launch in the second half of 2021. Ahead of its official arrival, the carmaker dropped a couple of teaser pictures revealing some interesting design details. In fact, the model is being tested aggressively in the country.

Recently, a prototype of the new Volkswagen SUV was caught on camera during its test rounds in Pune. While the test mule was completely camouflaged, its headlamps, front bumper with horizontal slat, fog lamp assembly and taillamps were visible.

Interestingly, the Taigun will be Volkswagen’s first production car to underpin the MQB A0 IN platform that will debut with the upcoming Skoda Kushaq. The latter one is due for March, 2021. It will also be the first model to roll out under the brand’s India 2.0 Project. In the mid-size SUV space, the new Volkswagen Taigun will be placed against the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The carmaker has already confirmed that the Taigun will be made available with a turbocharged petrol engine from its TSI family. It will feature a 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol motor benefited with cylinder deactivation technology. The gasoline unit will be tuned for making power close to 130bhp. Power will be delivered to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The SUV model lineup might also get a manual gearbox.

Official details of the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun are yet to be revealed. Though, its final model is likely to be packed with an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a fully digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, a flat bottom steering wheel with mounted controls, automatic climate control and more. The production version is likely to stay true to the concept the broke cover a couple days before the 2020 Auto Expo.
