Volkswagen Taigun SUV To Debut On 31st March – All Details Here

Volkswagen is all set to unveil the production-ready Taigun mid-size SUV in India on 31st March 2021. The SUV market launch is likely to happen in coming months and it’s estimated to cost between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). Here, it will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the upcoming Skoda Kushaq.

The carmaker claims that the Taigun will have as high as 95 percent localization and it will be the “Safest, Strongly Built SUV” in its segment. Similar to the Skoda Kushaq that’s due for July 2021, it will be the first product under the brand’s ‘India 2.0’ project and underpin the India-specific MQB A0 IN platform.

Engines, Gearboxes

Besides sharing the architecture, the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will share its powertrain with the Skoda Kushaq. The new Volkswagen SUV will come with the 1.0L TSI turbo petrol and 1.5L TSI turbo petrol engines making power worth 115bhp and 150bhp respectively. While the former will be available with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox, the latter will be exclusively offered with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Interior

Volkswagen Taigun is likely to be among the most feature-packed SUVs in its segment. It will have dual-tone interior theme with contrasting treatment. The SUV will have a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with an all digital instrument console. The list of features will also include connected car technology, wireless charging system, leatherette seats, a sunroof, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control and more.

Safety Features

The safety kit of the new Volkswagen SUV is likely to be similar to the upcoming Kushaq. It might come with 6 airbags, hill hold and hill descent control, electronic stability control and anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).

Design, Dimensions

The India-spec Volkswagen Taigun will share its design elements with the VW T-Cross. Though, it will be bigger than its global donor sibling and sit on segment’s largest wheelbase measuring around 2671mm. Upfront, the SUV will feature grille with honeycomb pattern and chrome highlight, LED headlamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lights), sliver skid plate and chrome bar above the lower air dam. Some of its other key highlights will include dual-tone ORVMs, multi spoke alloy wheels, dual-tone bumpers, roof integrated spoiler, LED taillamps and single-bar LED brake lamp.
