German automaker, Volkswagen will launch the new Taigun mid-sized SUV and the 5-seater Tiguan will be launched before the end of this year. The production version of the Volkswagen Taigun is reportedly to be unveiled on March 24, 2021. Volkswagen had revealed the pre-production version of the Taigun SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Volkswagen Taigun mid-sized SUV will have high-level of localisation and is expected to be priced around Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. It will be based on the Volkswagen Group’s heavily localised MQB AO IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kushaq.

Not just platform, the VW Taigun will share the engine options with the Skoda Kushaq. It will receive two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol. While the former is good for 113bhp and 175Nm of torque, the 1.5L engine offers 148bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.0L engine and a 7-speed DSG automatic with 1.5L petrol engine.

The VW Taigun shares the design cues from the global spec T-Cross and the Tiguan. It is longer, wider and taller than the T-Cross. The SUV will ride on segment-largest wheelbase of around 2,671mm, and will measure around 4.2 meters. The spy images reveal that the production version Taigun will look exactly similar to the pre-production model. In terms of styling, the SUV gets chrome highlight on the grille, chrome bar above the lower air-dam, honeycomb pattern for the grille and lower air-intakes, silver skid plate, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, multi-spoke alloys, dual-tone ORVMs, single-bar LED brake lamp, roof-integrated spoiler and dual-tone bumpers.
