Volkswagen Taigo Coupe-SUV Design Sketches Revealed

Volkswagen has revealed the design sketches of the upcoming Taigo Coupe-SUV. This model will be launched in the European markets this year. The new model will share multiple things with the India-spec Volkswagen Taigun, which will launch by mid-2021.

The Volkswagen Taigo is based on the Nivus Coupe-SUV, which is on sale in the South American market. It is the brand smallest coupe-SUV, which will be sold alongside the VW T-Cross SUV. The new model is based on the VW Group’s MQB AO platform, which underpins the T-Cross, Skoda Kamiq, VW Polo, Nivus and the Virtus. In fact, the localised version of this platform, called the MQB AO IN, underpins the VW Taigun & the Skoda Kushaq.

The Volkswagen Taigo will ride on 2.56m wheelbase, which is 90mm shorter than the Taigun. The Nivus-based coupe-SUV will measure around 4.2 meters in length. The coupe SUV will be powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 128bhp and a peak torque of 200Nm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

The Taigo is expected to share the features with the Nivus. It will get LED headlamps, LED DRLs and LED flashlights as standard. The Coupe-SUV will get 17-inch wheels, 10.25-inch digital instrument console and a new 10-inch VW Play Multimedia. The infotainment system has 10 GB of internal HD and is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, as well as internet and Wi-Fi connection via smartphone.
