Volkswagen Taigun is ready to hit showrooms in the month of September. Official booking and production of the SUV will begin in the third week of August 2021. After the Skoda Kushaq, the Taigun will be the next product to come under Volkswagen Group’s India 2.0 strategy and underpin MQB AO IN platform. It will be the first production model to feature Volkswagen’s new logo. In the mid-size SUV space, the new VW SUV will face challenge from the segment-leader Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and its cousin Skoda Kushaq.
Since the Taigun will be designed on the India-specific MQB AO IN architecture, it’s expected to be priced quite competitively. As per dealers’ claim, its prices might start from Rs 10 lakh for the base variant and go up to Rs 17 lakh for the fully-loaded trim. That means, the upcoming Taigun SUV will be priced equivalent to its rivals.
At present, the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos come in the price range Rs 9.99 lakh – Rs 17.70 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh – Rs 17.65 lakh respectively. The newly-launched Skoda Kushaq, however, is relatively more expensive costing between Rs 10.49 lakh – Rs 17.59 lakh. All aforementioned prices are ex-showroom.
Despite sharing platform and design elements, the Volkswagen Taigun looks different from Skoda Kushaq. It carries slatted grille and squarish LED headlamps along with lots of chrome treatment. The hood is more upright than its cousin. While both SUVs have dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels, the wheels’ design is different. The VW Taigun comes with connected LED taillamps.
The overall length, width and height of the SUV stand at 4221mm, 1760mm and 1612mm respectively. Some of its key features include a 10-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and My Volkswagen connect app, wireless charging pad, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster and more.
