Volkswagen Taigo SUV-Coupe Caught Undisguised

Volkswagen had confirmed the Taigo SUV-Coupe for the European markets in March. The SUV-Coupe has already been caught testing undisguised on the streets of Germany. The new model is basically the re-badged Nivus Coupe SUV, which is developed in Brazil. The new car also gets some visual upgrades.

The Volkswagen Taigo looks identical to the Nivus on sale in Brazil. The teaser reveals that the European-spec model will have different front bumper, but the spotted model looks similar to the Brazilian-sibling. The only difference is the ruler with LED Lighting that runs across the grid, and is inspired by the new Taos mid-sized SUV. The SUV-Coupe’s front grille, headlamps with full LED lighting and lower bumper seems identical to the Nivus.

There are no emblems on the front fenders, while the rear has slightly revised tail-lamps with different internal arrangements. There is connected bar that connects the two tail-lamps. The Volkswagen Taigo will also receive newly designed alloy wheels and new colour options.

The cabin of the Volkswagen Taigo will be similar to the Nivus; however, the European-spec model could get different finish. The SUV-Coupe will get a 10.25-inch fully-digital instrument console. Instead of the Brazilian-spec VW Play multimedia system, the Taigo could get the MIB3 system which is offered in the Polo and the Golf.

Feature list will include adaptive cruise control, automatic braking system, stability controls, traction control, ramp start assist, LED lighting system, 6 airbags, etc. The SUV-Coupe will aso receive an electric sunroof.

The Brazilian-spec model is powered by a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is capable of producing 128bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. A six-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox is available as standard. The VW Nivus is 4.26 meters in length and shares 2.56 meters long wheelbase with the Polo hatchback.  It has a boot capacity of 415-litres, which is 42-litres more than the T-Cross offering 373-litres.
