Upcoming Compact Cars Under 10 Lakhs In 2021-22

In this article, we bring you a list of upcoming new compact cars – hatchbacks and SUVs – which will be priced under Rs 10 Lakh.

Citroen Compact SUV

Citroen will launch the sub-4 meter SUV based on the new CMP platform in the Indian market in the end of 2021. The new model will be positioned against the likes of the Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and others. It could be India’s first Flexi-fuel model, which is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with ethanol blends. It is expected to produce around 118bhp. The regular model could get a 1.2L petrol engine that’s likely to come with the 5-speed manual and a DCT (dual-clutch transmission) automatic gearbox options.

Next-gen Maruti Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki will launch the next-gen Brezza in the end of 2021. The new model will be based on the advanced version of the HEARTECT platform. It will come with high-end features including an upgraded infotainment system, digital instrument console, automatic AC, cruise control and electric sunroof. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5L petrol with a stronger mild-hybrid system. Transmission options will include a 6-speed MT &  a 6-speed AT.

Next-gen Maruti Celerio

2021 Maruti Celerio Launch Date

The second generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio was planned to be launched in April-May 2021; however, the launch has now been delayed due to COVID-19 Pandemic. It is now likely to be launched in the third quarter of 2021. It will be based on the HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the WagonR, S-Presso and the Swift twins. The new Celerio is likely to be offered with two engine options – a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.

Next-gen Alto

Maruti Alto Festive Edition Price

Suzuki will launch the next-gen Alto hatchback before the end of this year. Japanese media claims that the new Suzuki Alto will be based on the evolved version of the lightweight HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Wagon R and the S-Presso. Thanks to the new lightweight platform, the new-gen Suzuki Alto will be lighter than the existing model and will offer improved power to weight ratio. The India-spec new Suzuki Alto 800 is likely to use the existing 796cc naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 48bhp and 69Nm of torque. This engine could also feature the Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid tech. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.

Hyundai AX1

Hyundai AX1 Spied

Hyundai will launch a new micro SUV, codenamed AX1 in the Indian market in the first half of 2022. It will be positioned against the likes of the Tata HBX, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. The Hyundai AX1 is likely to be based on the new K1 platform that underpins the Grand i10 Nios. It is expected to be powered by a 1.1-litre engine producing 68bhp and 96Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. The company could also add 82bhp, 1.2-litre petrol engine, which currently powers the Grand i10 Nios.

Maruti Jimny

Maruti Suzuki is also working on a 5-door version of the Jimny off-roader, which is rumoured to make global debut in early 2022. The new model will ride on 300mm longer wheelbase, and the length will be increased by 300mm. If reports are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki would aim to price the new model under 10 lakh. The new SUV is rumoured to be powered by a new turbocharged petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox options. The India-spec model will get the new 1.5L NA petrol engine.

Tata HBX

Tata HBX Timero Mini SUV

Tata Motors will launch the production version of the HBX micro SUV by October 2021. Rumoured to be called the Tata Timero, the new micro SUV will rival the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. It will be the brand’s second model to be based on the ALFA modular platform; the Altroz being the first model. The Tata Timero is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that also powers the Tiago, Tigor and the Altroz. This engine churns out 86bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. The small UV could also get the 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine with power output close to 100bhp. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission).

Mahindra TUV300 Facelift (Bolero Neo)

Mahindra will launch the TUV300 facelift with a different name, and is expected to be called the Mahindra Bolero Neo. The new Mahindra Bolero Neo will look similar to the older TUV300, featuring clam-shell bonnet, squared wheel arches and headlamps. It will be powered by the same 1.5-litre diesel engine that powers the TUV300; however, the engine will be tuned to meet the BS6 emission norms. In the BS4 avatar, this engine produces 100bhp and 240Nm of torque.  Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT.
