Volkswagen India has introduced the updated version of the Tiguan SUV in the country. The three-row SUV comes in a single Elegance variant, which is now available at Rs 34.69 lakh (ex-showroom). It received a price hike of Rs 49,000. The SUV continues to take on the Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Tucson, Jeep Compass. Here’re all key changes that have been made to the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV.
BS6 Phase II-compliant engine
The new Tiguan comes with the BS6 Phase II compliant 2.0L TSI petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The gasoline unit returns a claimed power of 190bhp and 320Nm of torque.
More mileage
With the emission update, the power and torque figures remain unchanged. Though, the SUV’s fuel efficiency has been increased to 13.54kmpl (earlier it was 12.65kmpl).
Upmarket Interior
The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with the dual-tone Grey and White interior theme replacing the old all-black cabin. The SUV now offers a wireless smartphone charger. In order to enhance its safety quotient, the carmaker has packed the SUV with Volkswagen’s Park Assist system and seat-belt reminder for all seats. Its safety kit also includes 6 airbags, three-point seat belts, hill start assist, hill descent control and adjustable head restraints for all seats.
Volkswagen’s EV Plans For India
The German automaker aims to enter into the electric vehicle (EV) market in India. The company will bring in electric iteration of the Tiguan SUV along with a small EV and Trinity EV. The Volkswagen Tiguan EV will have its world debut sometime in 2025. It will underpin the brand’s new MEB+ platform that’s compatible to new battery technology and autonomous capabilities. The architecture also promises higher range – up to 700km. The VW Tiguan EV can be had with either the 4WD or RWD system. The electric SUV will have the brand’s signature design language with upright, SUV-ish stance.
