Upcoming Volkswagen Tayron SUV – Fresh Details Out

With Volkswagen Virtus sedan and Taigun SUV, the German auto manufacturer is basking on the success of its India 2.0 project. Now, the company is ready to move at the next phase of its growth and it aims to expand its Indian product portfolio with a range of new models. One of its upcoming products will be a three-row SUV that’s reported to enter into production in 2024 and its market launch might happen in early 2025. Called the Volkswagen Tayron, the 7-seater SUV will be imported as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit and then assembled at the carmaker’s local facility. For people not in the know, the Volkswagen Tayron 5-seater version (based on the Tiguan AllSpace) is already on sale in the Chinese market. Globally, it will be the second-generation model of the SUV that will be sold in North American and European markets. Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg based plant in Germany will serve as production hub for the next-gen Tayron.

The new Volkswagen SUV will continue to be offered with SUV and coupe body styles. While its SUV version could be offered with 5 and 7-seats configurations, the coupe model might come with the 5-seats layout. The Tayron will witness comprehensive design changes and feature upgrades along with the more spacious cabin. The biggest updates will come in the form of Volkswagen’s upgraded MQB platform and retuned suspensions.

In global markets, the Volkswagen Tayron 7-seater SUV will be made available with two powertrain options – a 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.0L turbo diesel. Both motors will be benefited with the 48-volt mild hybrid tech. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox will be standard across the model lineup. The company has confirmed that there will be two petrol plug-in hybrids in two states of tune – 204bhp and 272bhp. Both setups will deliver a combined electric range of over 100km. It will support DC fast charging. In India, we might receive its 2.0L petrol version.
