Upcoming Utility Vehicles from Hyundai & Kia India

In this article, we bring you a list of upcoming new Hyundai and Kia Motors SUVs and MPVs in the Indian market in the next couple of years.

Upcoming Hyundai UVs

Hyundai Alcazar Hyundai will introduce the Alcazar 7-seater SUV in the Indian market in June 2021. Select dealers have already started accepting bookings for the Alcazar at a token amount of Rs 10,000. It is based on the Creta’s platform; however, the platform has been modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase. The new model rides on a segment-largest 2,670mm of wheelbase, and offers segment-largest 180-litres of boot space with all 3 row seats in position.

Hyundai Alcazar Launch

It will be offered in 6-and 7-seat layouts. The six-seater SUV will get captain seats in the second row with floor mounted centre armrest, while the 7-seater Alcazar will get bench-type seats in the second row. The Hyundai Alcazar will be offered with two engine options – a 159PS, 2.0L petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5L turbo-diesel. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. It will be positioned against the likes of the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari and the Mahindra XUV500.

Hyundai MPV – Hyundai is also readying a new 7-seater premium MPV, which will be positioned between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova (in terms of pricing). The new MPV will be based on the Creta’s platform. It is expected to be launched in 2022. The new Hyundai MPV is likely to be offered with two engine options – a 113bhp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol and a 113bhp, 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel.

Hyundai AX1 Spied

Hyundai AX1 Hyundai is also preparing a compact utility vehicle, codenamed AX1, which will be positioned against the likes of the Mahindra KUV100 NXT and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. The new model will be based on the K1 platform that underpins the Grand i10 Nios. The Hyundai AX1 will first go on sale in Korea in the end of this year, while India launch is expected in 2022. It is expected to be powered by a 1.1-litre engine producing 68bhp and 96Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and an AMT. The company could also add 82bhp, 1.2-litre petrol engine, which currently powers the Grand i10 Nios.

Upcoming Kia UVs

Kia KY MPV Spied

Kia KY MPV Kia has officially announced to launch a new utility vehicle in early 2022. The new model is most likely to be a new 7-seater MPV, which has already been caught testing in India. Codenamed KY, the new model will use the Seltos platform with slightly longer wheelbase similar to that of the Alcazar.  The Kia 7-seater MPV will be positioned between the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta (in terms of pricing and size).

The new Kia MPV is expected to measure around 4.5 meters in length, which is around 190mm longer than the Seltos. The new MPV will be manufactured at the brand’s Anantapur based plant. The new Kia MPV is expected to be offered with two engine options –  a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel. While the former is good for 113bhp and 145Nm of torque, the oil burner produces 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The MPV could also share the 159PS, 2.0L petrol engine from the Alcazar SUV.

2022 Kia Carnival

New Kia Carnival Korean automaker will introduce the new generation Carnival MPV in the Indian market in 2022. The new model is already on sale in select international markets. It measures 5,155mm in length, 1,995mm in width and 1,775mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 3,090mm. The India-spec model will be powered by the same 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that churns out 200bhp of power and 440Nm of torque. It will get an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.
