Upcoming Toyota Compact MPV (Ertiga-Based) – What To Expect?

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has planned a couple of its global SUVs and sharing products (with Maruti Suzuki) for the Indian market. The automaker has already rolled out the Baleno and Vitara Brezza based Glanza hatchback and Urban Cruiser subcompact SUV respectively. Reports suggest that Toyota’s next sharing models will be the re-badged versions of the Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MPV. While the former is likely to hit showrooms in the next 2 months, the latter will arrive near around 2021 festive season.

A latest digital rendering previews a possible design of the upcoming Toyota’s Ertiga-based MPV. The rendered model shares strong resemblance to the Ertiga. A newly-designed, triple-slatted chrome grille replaces the chrome studded unit and the silver skoped alloy wheels are changed with the dual-tone alloys. Its interior layout and features are likely to remain unchanged.

Features such as SmartPlay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, leather wrapped steering wheel and rear parking camera will be reserved for top-end trim. The list of standard fitments will include tilt adjust steering wheel, 60:40 split folding second row of seats, 50:50 split folding third row of seats, central locking, rear parking sensors, speed sensitive door locks, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat mounts and more.

For power, the new Toyota compact MPV will use the same 1.5, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. The gasoline motor will deliver a claimed power of 104PS and 138Nm of torque. It can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Read – Toyota Belta Based On Ciaz To Launch In August

Similar to the Maruti Ertiga, the new Toyota MPV is likely to be offered in 4 trims. Its prices are expected to start from Rs 8 lakh for the entry-level variant and go up to Rs 11.50 for the fully-loaded trim. At present, Maruti Suzuki’s compact MPV is available in the price range of Rs 7.81 lakh – Rs 10.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
