Upcoming SUVs Under 15 Lakhs – New Nexon To Creta

Here is a list of upcoming SUVs that will cost you under 15 lakhs in India.

New Tata Nexon

Tata Motors is all set to introduce the new Nexon compact SUV during festive season, most probably around Sept-Oct. The new model has been spotted testing numerous times on the Indian roads. It comes with significant design changes and an all-new interior along with a new turbo petrol engine. The new Tata Nexon shares styling cues from the new Curvv SUV Coupe concept. Inside the cabin, the new Nexon has a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless connectivity, a twin-spoke steering wheel and a digital instrument console. It is powered by a new 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 125PS and 225Nm of torque. The SUV is also expected to receive a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Citroen will launch the long-awaited C3 Aircross SUV in India by September 2023. The new model will be available in a single variant – and in 5 and 7-seat layout with later having removable seats in the third-row. It is powered by a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 110bhp and 190Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. It is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18.5kmpl.

Honda will finally enter the SUV category with the newly developed Elevate mid-sized SUV. Based on the fifth-gen City platform, the new Honda Elevate will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara and others. It comes with a new 10-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, semi-digital instrument console, a single-pane sunroof and ADAS tech. The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol engine that produces 121PS and 145Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a CVT.

Toyota is preparing to launch the new sub-4 meter SUV, which will be based on the Maruti Fronx crossover. It is likely to be called the Urban Cruiser Taisor, as the name has been trademarked in India. The Toyota Taisor will be positioned against the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and the Hyundai Exter. It will be offered with two engine options – a 1.2L DualJet petrol and a 1.0L Boosterjet turbo petrol. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.

Tata Motors is preparing to launch electric versions of the Punch, Harrier and Curvv SUV Coupe before the end of this financial year. The electric version of the Punch is expected to be launched before the end of this year. It will be based on the SIGMA platform, which is basically the heavily modified Punch hatchback. The Punch EV will be positioned against the Citroen eC3. It is expected to get a 24kWh battery pack with a range of around 300km on a single charge.

Hyundai will launch the significantly revised Creta SUV in the first half of 2024. The new model will come with all-new front & rear styling with several India-specific changes. The cabin will receive all-new dashboard layout and will have similarities with the Verna sedan. It will also come with ADAS tech & a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. It will be offered with 3 engine options – a 115bhp, 1.5L NA petrol, a 116bhp, 1.5L turbo diesel and a 160bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol.

Mahindra is working on the updated version of the XUV300 compact SUV, which will be launched in our market in 2024. The new model will receive design changes and a significantly revised interior. It is likely to get a new touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument console and new dashboard layout. The SUV will also receive a panoramic sunroof. It will be offered with the same 1.2L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel engine options.

Tata Motors will launch the new Curvv SUV Coupe in the first half of 2024. The new model will be offered with ICE as well as electric powertrains. It is based on the SIGMA architecture and will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others in the category. The electric version is likely to get a battery pack of around 40-50kWh with a claimed range of over 400km on a single charge. The ICE versions will get the 1.2L or 1.5L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel engine.

The Korean automaker will introduce the new Sonet facelift in the country in early next year. The new model will receive design changes in-line with the new Seltos. The cabin is also expected to receive significant changes. It is reportedly to get segment-first ADAS tech with 7 features. It will retain the existing engine options including a 1.2L NA petrol, a 1.0L turbo petrol and a 1.5L turbo diesel.
