Upcoming New Compact Crossovers In India In 2021

Renault Kiger

Renault Kiger Concept

French automaker, Renault will introduce an all-new sub-4 meter crossover, the Kiger in the country in the first half of 2021. The new model will mainly target the B-segment hatchbacks and B-segment SUVs. It will be based on the CMF-A modular platform, which also underpins the new Nissan Magnite and the Renault Triber. Not just platform, the SUV will use the Magnite’s 1.0L naturally-aspirated and 1.0L turbocharged petrol engines. While the former is good for 72bhp and 96Nm of torque, the turbo engine offers 99bhp and 160Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT X-Tronic Automatic (1.0L Turbo Petrol).

Expected Price – Rs 6 lakh – Rs 10 lakh

Tata HBX

Tata HBX Micro SUV

Tata Motors will introduce the production version of the HBX concept in the second quarter of 2021. Codenamed Hornbill, the new compact crossover will be positioned against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. It will be brand’s second model to be based on the ALFA modular platform. The new model will share the engine and interior with the Altroz and Tiago. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 85bhp and 115Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearbox option will be on offer.

Expected Launch – April-June 2021
Expected Price – Rs 4 lakh – Rs 6 lakh

Hyundai AX1

Hyundai AX1 Spied

It will be the brand’s smallest CUV (Compact Utility Vehicle) or crossover, and will rival the Tata HBX crossover in the country. The compact crossover looks like a mini Venue, featuring similar body design. It is expected that the new model could share the cabin features and components from the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Santro. It is expected to be based on the K1 platform and could share the engine options with the Grand i10 Nios. The micro SUV could receive the 1.2L 4-cylinder NA petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 114Nm of torque. The SUV could also receive Santro’s 1.1L engine that offers 67bhp and 100Nm of torque. Transmission choices might include 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox option.

Citroen C21

Citroen C21 Compact SUV

French automaker, Citroen has started testing the locally developed compact crossover, codenamed C21 on the Indian roads. The new model will be based on the simplified version of the CMP (Common Modular Platform), which also underpins the Peugeot 208 hatchback. It is expected to come with a single 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Likely to produce around 130bhp, this engine is expected to be offered with manual and automatic gearbox options. Citroen could also offer the C21 compact SUV with a 1.2L naturally-aspirated petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. It will be positioned against the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the Tata Nexon.
