Upcoming Honda Elevate SUV – 5 Key Things To Know

Honda N7X 7-Seater SUV Concept

Honda Cars India is planning to foray into the highly-competitive mid-size SUV segment in the next couple of years. According to a latest media report, the Japanese automaker has dropped the sub-4 meter SUV plan and now aims to tap the mid-size SUV space with a new model (codenamed – Honda 31XA). The company recently trademarked the ‘Honda Elevate’ nameplate in India that’s likely to be used for the production-spec Honda 31XA (S-SUV). Here’re 5 important things to know about the upcoming new Honda SUV revealed so far.

1. N7X Concept Inspired

Design and styling of the production-ready Honda Elevate SUV could be inspired by the N7X concept that was recently broke cover in Indonesia. The concept features slim wraparound headlamps, multi-slat grille with lots of chrome, dual LED DRLs, a clamshell bonnet, prominent character lines, round wheel arches with black cladding and LED taillamps.  The Honda N7X concept previews a three-row SUV that will replace the BR-V in the Indonesian market.

2. Two Seating Layouts

The new Honda SUV is reported to be offered with two seating configurations – 5-seats and 7-seats. Its 5-seater version will rival against multiple products right from Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos to Tata Harrier and MG Hector. The Honda Elevate 7-seater SUV will face challenge from the MG Hector Plus, newly-launched Hyundai Alcazar and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700.

3. City’s Platform & Engine

Measuring around 4.3m in length, the new Honda SUV will share its platform and engines with the City sedan. The latter one is currently available with the 121bhp, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 100bhp, 1.5L diesel motors. The gasoline unit features DOHC (double overhead camshaft) that makes it BS6-compliant. Transmission choices are likely to include 6-speed manual and CVT automatic units.

4. Competitive Pricing

The Japanese carmaker expects to retail around 40,000 units of the new Honda Elevate SUV on annual basis. In order to price it competitively, the company aims to achieve high level of localization (over 90%). In fact, some of its components and electronic/electric architecture could share with the older BR-V.

5. Expected Launch

As of now, there is no official word on Honda’s new SUV and its India launch timeline. Though, the model is reported to hit roads sometime in 2023.
