TVS Motor Company aims to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore in coming years. The new TVS electric two-wheelers will be manufactured under the brand’s separate vertical. Speaking to an online media publication, Sudarshan Venu, Joint Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, has revealed that the company will mark its presence across electric vehicle segment including commuter space, high performance sporty motorcycles, premium scooters and electric three-wheelers. The new TVS electric scooters and bikes will hit roads in the next 24 months and will be sold alongside the brand’s existing petrol-powered product lineup. The company’s new electric vehicle vertical consists of a team of 500-600 engineers that’s working on multiple EV concepts to meet market requirements. The upcoming TVS electric vehicle range will be designed and developed in India with a global R&D ecosystem. The new EV models will be manufactured at the brand’s dedicated electric vehicle facility.
Currently, the company is working on an integrated vehicle platform with a significant backend manufacturing of battery and other components managed by in-house team. TVS iQube is the first electric scooter from the home-grown two-wheeler maker that’s currently available in Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune and Coimbatore. The company will roll out its second electric offering by the end of fiscal year 2022 (i.e. by March 2022). It will be the production version of the TVS Creon concept that was previewed at the 2018 Auto Expo. It’s claimed to be the most advanced connected scooter in the country.
The Creon e-scooter concept was equipped with a 12kW electric motor powered by three lithium-ion batteries. It’s said to go 0 to 60kmph in 5.1 seconds and offer a range of 80km. The e-scooter concept is built on an aluminum perimeter frame and features diamond cut alloys with TVS Remora tyres. It’s an app-enabled scooter with Cloud connectivity, park assist, three riding modes, regenerative braking, geofencing and safety/anti-theft features. The scooter also offers a smartphone charger, a TFT screen and an underseat storage.
