Toyota Urban Cruiser Vs Maruti Vitara Brezza – Key Differences

Toyota Urban Cruiser compact SUV will be the second Maruti Suzuki rebadged product from the Japanese carmaker in the country. Official bookings of the subcompact SUV have already been commenced and its launch is slated to happen this month (September, 2020). The Urban Cruiser is based on the Vitara Brezza, though it looks slightly different than Maruti Suzuki’s counterpart. Here’re the key differences and similarities between these two models.

Design & Styling

Cosmetic changes are not limited to the logo unlike the Toyota Glanza hatchback. The Japanese carmaker made subtle styling upgrades especially at the front end. The Urban Cruiser carries a larger twin horizontal slate grille and differently designed front bumper giving it more aggressive look. Elements such as headlamps, fog lamp assembly, alloy wheels and taillamps are exactly similar to the Vitara Brezza.

Colours

Toyota has confirmed that the Urban Cruiser will come in 6 monotone and 3 dual-tone colour schemes. The Rustic Brown, Groovy Orange with Sunny White roof and Rustic Brown with Sizzling Black roof shades will be exclusively offered with Toyota’s new compact SUV. Other paint schemes are similar to the Vitara Brezza including Spunky Blue, Sauve Silver, Sunny White, Iconic Grey, Groovy Orange and Spunky Blue with Sizzling Black roof.

Interior

Minimal changes have been made inside the cabin. Unlike the Vitara Brezza that has sporty all-black theme, the Toyota Urban Cruiser features a more premium coffee brown scheme. You can also notice the Toyota logo on the steering wheel. Both models share the same goodies including a 7.0-inch SmartPlay Studio 2.0 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, rain sensing wipers, a multi information display, cruise control, climate control, keyless entry with push button start and more.

Safety

For safety provision, the new Toyota compact SUV will offer dual airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS (antilock braking system) with EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), ISOFIX child seat mounts and front seatbelt pretensioner as standard fitments. Similar to the Vitara Brezza, the higher trims of the Urban Cruiser will be offered with rear view camera, rear defogger and hill hold assist (only on automatic variants). Engine

No changes have been made under the hood. The Toyota Urban Cruiser comes with the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder K-Series BS6 petrol engine that does duty in the Vitara Brezza. The gasoline unit makes a top power of 103bhp and 138Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual (standard) and a 4-speed torque converter automatic (optional). All automatic variants are offered with advanced li-ion battery with ISG mild hybrid system as we have seen in the Vitara Brezza.
