Toyota is all set to enter into the sub-4 meter SUV space with the all-new Urban Cruiser. It is basically the re-badged version of the popular Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The Toyota Urban Cruiser is the second product from the Toyota-Suzuki partnership in India. Bookings for the new SUV are reportedly to open on August 22, while launch is expected in September 2020.
The new Toyota Urban Cruiser will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and the upcoming Kia Sonet. It is clearly evident that Toyota engineers have made significant visual upgrade at the front, which makes it look different from the regular model.
The SUV has received all-new front grille, which is similar to that of the Fortuner. The company has also updated the bumper design, as it gets new fog lamp enclosure, new air-dam and lower bumper. The headlamp unit remains the same. In fact, the Urban Cruiser shares the alloy wheels with the regular Brezza.
The overall design remains intact. The updated model is likely to receive slightly revised rear bumper. The side profile won’t receive any changes. The cabin design is also expected to remain the same, except for the brighter colour scheme and new upholstery for seats. The SUV will offer features like touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic AC, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, etc.
Under the bonnet, the upcoming Toyota SUV will receive the same BSVI compliant 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that powers the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This engine is capable of producing 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. It is benefitted with Suzuki’s mild-hybrid SHVS system, which makes it more fuel efficient than the regular model. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.
