Toyota has recently confirmed that the upcoming sub-4 meter SUV will be called the Urban Cruiser. The company has also released the first teaser image of the SUV. A new media report claims that the bookings for the Toyota Urban Cruiser will open on August 22, 2020. The new model will be launched in September 2020.
This will be the first product under the Toyota-Suzuki partnership in India; first being the Toyota Glanza. The new compact SUV is basically the re-badged Maruti Vitara Brezza. Unlike Glanza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will receive significant visual changes. The SUV’s teaser confirms the re-designed front with all-new Toyota grille and new bumper. However, there will be no sheet metal changes.
The interior of the Urban Cruiser will remain largely identical to the Vitara Brezza. It is likely to feature brighter interior scheme and new upholstery for seats. In terms of features, the two SUVs will remain the same. In terms of features, the SUV will offer a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic AC, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, etc.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and soon-to-be-launched Kia Sonet. The SUV is likely to feature slightly revised alloy wheels and different paint scheme. The Toyota Urban Cruiser will be powered by a 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine with SHVS mild-hybrid technology. This engine is capable of producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic.
The Japanese automaker is also working on the Fortuner facelift, which has been spotted testing in India. The SUV is rumoured to be launched during festive season, before Diwali. Adding to it, the company will also launch the CNG version of the Innova Crysta.
