Toyota To Launch Two Brand New Cars In India – New SUV, MPV

Japanese automaker, Toyota has recently launched the new Glanza hatchback in the Indian market. The company will also introduce the new Urban Cruiser. These models are basically the re-badged versions of the Baleno and the Brezza. Toyota is also developing two brand new utility vehicles for the Indian market. These new UVs will be launched in the country in the next 1-2 years.

Toyota and Suzuki JV is working on a new mid-sized SUV, which will have two different derivatives. The Toyota’s version, codenamed D22 will be launched before Diwali 2022. The new model will also debut the brand’s low-cost DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform. This platform currently underpins the Toyota Raize, Daihatsu Rocky and the new Toyota Avanza.

Previous reports suggest that the new Toyota D22 SUV could share styling cues from the global Toyota SUVs including the Corolla Cross, the RAV4 and the Yaris Cross. Not just styling, the cabin of the upcoming SUV will have similarities with the new Corolla Cross. The SUV is expected to feature ADAS tech & several high-end comfort and convenience features. It will be offered with Toyota’s hybrid technology, which has an electric motor with the internal combustion engine.

New Avanza

Toyota has also started testing the new C-segment MPV in the country. Codenamed 560B, the new model is likely to replace the Innova Crysta MPV. It is expected to be launched in the first half of 2023. The new model is likely to be based on the front-wheel-drive DNGA platform, which will help Toyota to price it competitively.

The new model will share similarities with the new Veloz and the Avanza MPVs. The next-gen Toyota Innova could be slightly shorter than the current model without compromising on the interior space.  The Avanza measures 4,475mm, which is around 260mm shorter than the Innova; however, both models have same 2,750mm wheelbase. Toyota has already confirmed that the new Innova will debut hybrid powertrain. This will help the new model to meet the tightening global emission standards.
