Toyota Plans 2 New 7-Seater SUVs For India – Launch Timeline

For the current year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has strategically outlined two significant product unveilings – Taisor (a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx) and the latest iteration of the Fortuner. Complementing these releases, the Japanese automaker is set to expand its SUV product lineup with the introduction of two all-new three-row SUVs, anticipated to make their debut in 2025. One of these SUVs will be anchored on the Corolla Cross platform, while the other will find its foundation in the Hyryder.

Delving into details about the Corolla Cross-based model, this new 7-seater Toyota SUV is set to share its platform with the Innova Hycross, denoted as TNGA-C. Intriguingly, several components and powertrain features will be seamlessly borrowed from its MPV counterpart. Worth noting is that the globally-marketed Toyota Corolla Cross, positioned as a 5-seater SUV with a 2640mm wheelbase, is gearing up for a three-row version with an extended wheelbase, projected to be around 150mm longer than its 5-seater variant. This extension facilitates the incorporation of an additional pair of seats.

The forthcoming Toyota 7-seater SUV is anticipated to boast foldable rear seats, resulting in a flat floor. Additionally, an electrically operated tailgate and elongated rear doors are part of the envisioned features. To enhance visibility in the third row, the model will showcase a slimmer D pillar and an expanded glass house area. As previously mentioned, the Toyota Corolla Cross-based SUV is set to share its engine lineup with the Innova Hycross, featuring a 172bhp, 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 186bhp, 2.0L petrol engine incorporating Toyota’s self-charging strong hybrid technology.

Toyota’s second three-row SUV, based on the Hyryder, will essentially be a re-badged iteration of the Maruti Grand Vitara-based 7-seater SUV. Maruti Suzuki has already initiated the development of this model, identified by the codename Y17, scheduled to commence production in 2025 at the newly established Karkhoda facility. The upcoming SUV will seamlessly share its platform, design elements, features, and powertrains with the Grand Vitara. While retaining the core aspects, Toyota plans to introduce select cosmetic modifications to its re-badged Grand Vitara 7-seater-based SUV.
