Toyota has finally released the prices of the much-awaited Innova Hycross in the country. It is available in the price bracket of Rs 18.30 lakh to Rs 28.97 lakh, and customers can book the new model at a token amount of Rs 50,000. The new model will be sold alongside the existing Innova Crysta, which will also receive an upgrade in February 2023. The new Hycross looks more like a crossover instead of an MPV, and is benefited with the segment’s first strong hybrid engine.
The new Innova Hycross doesn’t have a direct rival in the segment; however, its aggressive pricing places it against 3-row SUVs like Tata Safari & Mahindra XUV700, and the more premium Kia Carnival MPV. The new Hycross measures 4,755mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,795mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,850mm. It has a ground clearance of 185mm. It is offered in 7 and 8-seat layouts. The new model is longer and taller than the XUV700 and the Safari. The longer wheelbase also helps Toyota to create more space inside the cabin.
The Mahindra XUV700 is 4695mm long, 1890mm wide and 1755mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2750mm. It has a ground clearance of 200mm, and is available with 5 and 7-seat layout. On the other hand, the Tata Safari is 4,661mm long, 1894mm wide, 1786mm tall and has a 2741mm wheelbase. The SUV has a ground clearance of 205mm and is available with 6 and 7-seat layout.
The Kia Carnival is bigger than the Innova Hycross in every respect. The Carnival is placed in an upper segment, and offers loads of space inside the cabin. It is 360mm longer and 135mm wider than the Hycross. The big difference comes in the form of wheelbase, as the Carnival has a wheelbase of 3050mm that’s 210mm longer than the Hycross.

The Hycross and the XUV700 are the only models available with petrol engine options. However, the latter also gets a diesel engine option. On the flip side, the Innova Hycross is the only model in its category to offer a strong hybrid powertrain.
The new Innova Hycross is available with two engine options – a 2.0L NA petrol & 2.0L petrol with a self charging strong hybrid system. While the former is good for 174PS and 205Nm with CVT, the strong hybrid engine offers a combined output of 186PS and 206Nm, and is paired to an e-CVT. The MPV’s hybrid version is claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 21.1kmpl and a theoretical tank range of 1097km.
The XUV700 is available with two engine options – a 200PS, 2.0L turbo petrol and a 185PS, 2.2L turbo diesel. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. The diesel version is also available with AWD layout. The diesel model is claimed to offer a mileage of 15.5kmpl and a full tank range of 930km.
The Safari is available in a single 170PS, 2.0L turbo diesel engine with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque convertor gearboxes. This front-wheel-drive SUV is claimed to offer a mileage of 14.08kmpl and a theoretical tank range of 700km. The Carnival is powered by a 200PS/440Nm, 2.2L turbo diesel engine paired to an 8-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. This full-sized MPV returns 13.9kmpl and offers a full fuel tank range of 834km.

The Hycross petrol range is available in the price bracket of Rs 18.30 lakh to Rs 19.20 lakh. On the flip side, the strong hybrid version is tagged at Rs 24.01 lakh for VX variant and goes all the way up to Rs 28.97 lakh for top spec ZX (O).
The Safari SUV is priced at Rs 15.45 lakh for base model and Rs 23.76 lakh for the top-spec model. The XUV700 diesel range starts at Rs 16 lakh and goes up to Rs 24.95 lakh for the top-end variant.
