Toyota India is currently selling two re-badged Maruti Suzuki Cars – the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser based on Baleno & Vitara Brezza respectively. The Toyota-Suzuki partnership will finally have a newly developed product, called the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder in the country. Scheduled to make global debut on July 1, 2022, the new Toyota Hyryder will come with several segment-first features and tech.
Maruti Suzuki will also introduce a differently Styled SUV based on the Hyryder. The Maruti’s version is rumoured to be called the Vitara and is expected to replace the global Suzuki Vitara. The new SUVs will be produced at Toyota’s factory in Bidadi near Bangalore in Karnataka. Production of the new SUVs will commence from August 2022.
Toyota Hyryder AWD Automatic
The company has already announced that the new Hyryder SUV will be offered with mild and strong hybrid engines. It will be offered with two petrol engines – Maruti-sourced 1.5-litre K15C dualjet with mild hybrid tech and Toyota’s 1.5L petrol with strong hybrid tech. While the former is capable of producing 103PS and 137Nm of torque, the later is reportedly to produce around 116PS.
Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic with 1.5L mild hybrid unit. The strong hybrid motor will be coupled to a e-CVT unit. Toyota has also confirmed that the new SUV will come with FWD (front-wheel-drive) and AWD (all-wheel-drive) system options. The front-wheel-drive and self charging system will be exclusively offered with the strong hybrid powertrain. The AWD system will only be offered with a mild hybrid tech.
The latest teaser shows the new Hyryder making use to all-wheel-drive system. It also shows rear disc brakes of the AWD version of the Hyryder. It will be the only SUV in its category to offer AWD setup.
Hyryder Interior & Exterior
The company has released multiple teasers showing the exterior and interior details. Inside the cabin, the SUV will have dual-tone dashboard in soft brown and black leather with silver accents, and a free-standing touchscreen infotainment system and connected car tech. The SUV will have several high-end features like cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, a 360 degree camera, powered driver’s seat, HUD, wireless phone charging, automatic AC, 6 airbags, ESP, traction control and others.
The new Hyryder is based on Suzuki’s Global-C platform that underpins the Vitara in overseas markets, the Maruti Brezza and the S-Cross. The SUV comes with a RAV4 inspired front design, featuring a new grille with sporty black pattern and LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs. There is a glossy black cladding with split chrome bars above the front grille that accommodates Suzuki badge. Other design highlights include black ORVMs, body-coloured door handles, a sporty rear spolier and sleek LED taillamps.
