Toyota Hilux: 3 New Lifestyle Pick-Ups To Be Launched In India

It seems like lifestyle pickup trucks could be the next big thing in the Indian market. These vehicles are not very popular among Indian car buyers; however, things could change in near future. Many automakers are exploring their international lifestyle pick-ups for our market. In fact, new pick-up trucks have been spotted testing in India.

Going by the reports, at least 3 new pick-up trucks could be introduced in our market in the next couple of years. We reported earlier that Toyota is evaluating the Hilux pickup truck for the Indian market. In fact, the pickup was caught on camera in West Bengal on the Durgapur Expressway.

Adding to it, the Ford Ranger pickup has recently been spotted testing on the Indian roads. After introducing the D-Max, Isuzu is now preparing to launch the BSVI compliant V-Cross lifestyle pickup in India. In fact, Isuzu India’s official website claims that the new V-Cross is coming soon in India.

The new Hilux pickup is based on the same ladder-on-frame chassis that also underpins the Fortuner SUV and the Innova Crysta MPV. Not just platform, the pickup shared the engine option, braking and suspension mechanism from its siblings.

Powering the Hilux is a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that produces 201bhp and 500Nm. The new model is claimed to be 15.3% more powerful and 11.1% torqueier and fuel efficient. Other engine options include a 147bhp, 2.4L diesel and a 2.7L petrol. Both 4X2 and 4X4 drivetrain systems are on offer.

The Ranger is based on the Endeavour’s platform. Not just platform, the pickup source features, powertrain and other mechanics from the SUV-sibling. The India-spec model could use the Endeavour’s new 2.0L turbo-diesel engine that is capable of producing 164bhp and 420Nm of torque. It is paired to a 10-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The pickup also gets active 4WD system, six airbags, traction control, differential locking, etc.

The BS6 V-Cross is expected to retain the design highlight from the predecessor. However, it is likely to get new grille and B-LED headlamps, blacked-out B-pillar, and new 18-inch diamond cut alloys. The BSVI compliant model is likely to receive the 2.5-litre diesel engine. In the BS4 avatar, this engine offers 134bhp and 320Nm of torque at 1,800-2,800rpm.
