Toyota Corolla Cross, the all-new compact SUV from the Japanese carmaker, has been launched in the U.S market. Priced from Rs $22,195, the model will go on sale in the month of October. The compact SUV is being assembled at the new Mazda Toyota production plant in Huntsville, Alabama. The facility has production capacity of up to 150,000 units per annum. The Corolla Cross model lineup has been offered in three trims – L, LE and XLE – powered by a 2.0L Dynamic Force engine (169bhp/203Nm).
While the entry-level variant comes with FWD (front-wheel-drive) system only, the top-end XLE is available with AWD system. It gets direct shift CVT automatic gearbox borrowed from Corolla sedan’s sportier ‘S’ grades. The new Toyota compact SUV underpins the high-strength TNGA-C platform and it’s claimed to “offer high-quality performance, a comfortable ride” along with a spacious cabin. Upfront, the Toyota Corolla Cross features a distinctive black grille flaked by LED lighting with black body accents. The compact SUV is being made available with 17-inch (for the base variant) to 18-inch (for the top-end trims) alloy wheel options. The rear section has been adorned by LED taillamps and rear spoiler.
Interior layout and features of the all-new Toyota Corolla Cross are similar to its hatchback and sedan siblings. The compact SUV has SofTex-trimmed seats and a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar and heated front seats. The rear seats (with 60/40 split folding ratio) get heat and air conditioning vents as standard features. It can be had with either single zone automatic climate control or dual zone automatic climate control. The compact SUV has a towing capacity of up to 1,500 lbs (680kgs).
The carmaker is offering a range of accessories with the new compact SUV including a roof rack with crossbars, an activity mount for carrying items such as bicycles and all-weather floormats.
